Arman, né Armand Pierre Fernandez (1928–2005), was a French-born American artist who gained international renown as part of the early-1960s Nouveau Réalisme movement, which was roughly analogous to American Pop Art. He was known especially for his mixed-media "Accumulations," in which dozens upon dozens of identical store-bought items were used to create abstract sculptures and reliefs. The works here, mostly from the late ’90s, are paintings created with house-painting brushes and bicycle parts stuck to canvas.
