The paintings by these two artists were curated by two others: Verne Dawson and Peter Doig, respectively. Personal connections underlie the choices: Dawson knew Lynch, who died last year at 54, from their student days together at the Cooper Union. Doig, a skiing buff, met Tierney, an extreme skier as well as a self-taught artist who decorates skis, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The affinities don't end there as all involved share an interest in landscapes, or elements thereof, visualized in ways that touch upon the surreal or the primitive.
