Chantal Joffe, “Night Portraits”

A Vermont native, Joffe received her training as a painter in the U.K., and now lives and works in London. Her style of intimate Expressionism seems connected to that of Alice Neel, perhaps more so now that she has moved from using images from fashion magazines to her own self as the subject. The paintings here depict her clothed as well as naked and sometimes feature her daughter.
