Doris Salcedo

Poetic is the label usually given to the work of this artist, who plumbs the haunted intersection where personal and historical trauma meet. Playing off the political turmoil of her native Colombia, her installations feature found objects and materials (furniture, clothing, etc.) altered to evoke harrowing events that continue to cling to memory, despite official efforts to bury the past.
