Helen Frankenthaler, "Composing with Color, Paintings 1962–1963"

Frankenthaler was one of the very few women artists associated with Abstract Expressionism, but during the early 1960s, she began to embrace the Color Field aesthetic championed by the critic Clement Greenberg. Dating from that period, these striking paintings luxuriate in the chromatic possibilities of the medium.
