“In the Studio: Paintings”

This two-space show, uptown and down, is divided into halves dealing with painting and photography, respectively. The subject for both is the artist's studio—a recurring theme for painters and photographers alike, who often turn to their own ateliers for inspiration. Two curatorial heavyweights late of MoMA handle the organizational duties: John Elderfield tackles painting and Peter Galassi the photography. On view is a who's who of art history, running the gamut from the 18th century to the postwar era.
