Time Out says

One of Japan’s postwar seminal artists, Shiraga (1924–2008), was known for creating action paintings by hanging from a rope and using his feet to apply pigment instead of conventional brushes. The results shared affinities with AbEx, though Shiraga’s methods were more performative in nature than Pollock’s drip paintings.
