The work of L.A. artist Matthew Monahan has the same sort of splintered-fragmented-deconstructed quality of forms and styles found in the efforts of other contemporary figurative sculptors such as David Altmejd and Thomas Houseago, though Monahan seems to aim for some sort of sweet spot between the robotic and the ancient. This show, the artist's sixth with the gallery, features 17 new sculptures, including a monumental figure installed by itself in the back gallery.
