Time Out says

Prendergast was an American Postimpressionist noted especially for his mastery of watercolor. Like his contemporaries in France, he painted modern life as Baudelaire once advised artists to do, only Prendergast didn’t just “paint” his scenes of people frolicking at the beach or strolling through the park: He dissolved them in a solvent of liquid color, puddled into pointillist daubs. The show rounds up his series of languid aquarelles depicting the leisurely goings-on at the Public Garden in his hometown, Boston.
