This Mexican artist made a splash at last year’s Frieze New York with her giveaway of colorful ponchos that looked like they came out of a sweatshop run by Matisse and Frida Kahlo. Her NewMu show will feature a similar transactional piece in which viewers are encouraged to bring in and exchange their own personal items for elements from an installation that functions like a shop, with shelves and other modular fixtures used for commercial display—the idea being to measure value throgugh “personal history and significance” instead of money.
