Tobias Spichtig, "This is what happened in the jungle"

As with a lot of contemporary artists using photography, Spichtig's approach to the medium is heavily meta—less interested in the image per se than the ways images become circulated within visual culture, in the process losing the already tenuous connection to whatever subject they may have represented in the first place. Something like that may motivate the works here, which consist of deadpan views of a zoo's rain-forest habitat, shot in ways that confuse one's sense of the artificial nature of the place.
