Wang Guangle

In his first U.S. exhibition, this Chinese artist from Fujian province presents seven new works inspired by a local custom, in which old people prepare for death by adding a coat of paint to their coffins for each year they are still alive. Similarly, successive layers of pigment were applied daily to the canvases here, culminating in a sculptural affect.
