This 100-year-old coffeemonger should win on its fantastic wafting java aromas alone, but given that this is a competition of aesthetics, we also took into account its simple, old-fashioned storefronts and burlap sacks o’ beans in the windows.

7 Airline Diner
You saw this T-Bird–era retro eatery in Goodfella’s; that’s why it looks so familiar. Its aging signage and chrome facade promise authenticity, and those brightly hued murals on the adjacent wall are nonsequiturs, but totally awesome.

You can’t help but sigh at the kitschy kitchen scene beaming from the brightly lit windows of this Chelsea bakery. You almost expect Doris Day to dance by in a gingham frock, slathering frosting on fluffy cupcakes and crooning love songs to Rock Hudson. Sweet.
