    Time Out New York / Issue 628 : Oct 11–17, 2007

    Sports venues: Sights & Blights

    Sights

    Gaelic Park
Where else can you go to see hurling and Gaelic football? The answer is Ireland, but the Bronx is—marginally—easier to get to. 4000 Corlear Ave at 240th St, Bronx

    KeySpan Park
Coney Island might be changing (mostly for the worse), but this fantastic boardwalk ballpark—home of the Brooklyn Cyclones—isn’t going anywhere. Stuff your gullet with hot dogs and beer for a fraction of the cost incurred at a Major League game. 1904 Surf Ave between 17th and 19th Sts, Coney Island, Brooklyn

USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center
The largest public tennis facility in the world, the USTABJKNTC has hosted the U.S. Open grand slam finale since 1978. Flushing Meadows, Queens

    Blights

    Shea Stadium
The only thing uglier than Shea is the 2007 Mets who collapsed there. Mercifully, this Flushing eyesore will be replaced by Citi Field in 2009. 123-01 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing, Queens

    Continental Airlines Arena
This is just one reason we’re thankful the Nets are moving to Brooklyn in a few years. Jersey can keep it.

    Madison Square Garden
The Knicks are a long way removed from the days of Clyde Frazier and Earl Monroe, and the Garden’s locale doesn’t appeal too much either. Thanks again, Isiah.
