    New restaurant openings

Beat the crowds to these noteworthy new eateries.

    Shang
    Photographs: Roxana Marroquin

Shang Toronto chef Susur Lee makes his New York debut. Inspired by the diverse ways Chinese food is interpreted around the world, Lee presents fusion small plates such as Jamaican jerk chicken with soy and ginger. Thompson LES Hotel, 187 Orchard St between E Houston and Stanton Sts (212-260-7900)

Baoguette Thao Nguyen, wife of chef Michael Huynh, launches a tiny Vietnamese sandwich shop. The name is a play on the bread used to make traditional banh mi sandwiches. Innovations on the original include red-curry corned beef with caramelized onions. 61 Lexington Ave between 25th and 26th Sts (212-518-4089)

Co. Sullivan Street Bakery owner Jim Lahey unveils his first restaurant (that’s “Company”), where he will apply his bread-baking skills to the pizza trade. Look for individual, minimalist pies in the 55-seat Chelsea space. His mantra of simplicity carries over to the screw-cap–only wine list. 230 Ninth Ave at 24th St (212-243-1105)

Fishtail by David Burke Chef David Burke gets into the sustainability game by supplying this bi-level eatery with seafood caught by his own New Jersey fishing boat. The playful menu offers “whole and simple” dishes, like roasted branzino, alongside “fussy” ones, including pan-seared halibut with artichoke flan. 135 E 62nd St between Park and Lexington Aves (212-754-1300)

L’Artusi The team behind dell’anima opens its second restaurant. Italian food will be dispatched from specialized stations: a crudo bar with bites like uni with tobiko custard; a counter dispensing formaggio; and a bar for sampling from the 350-strong list. 228 W 10th St between Bleecker and Hudson Sts (212-255-5757)

Went to Pranna last light and it was perfect. From Food to Service, Ambience to Vibe. Had the Rack of lamb and Khao soy noodles with prawn. Absolutely amazing the flavors in the food and the spices the chef is using are close to perfection. The food has a little kick which is really good. The desserts we had were pranna bakery, thai basil sundae and the sorbet selection. All very good. Our server was very professional and had a lot of knowledge abbout the food. The cocktails also very good.

...Loved it! I think it has a long way to go, considering it has been open for two days lol., but it has great potential, and the dimmed lights are ideal for dates gone right, and for dates gone wrong!
