Billy Rose Theatre Collection, New York Public Library
WHY ESSENTIAL:
You’ll be amazed at what your NYPL card gives you access to. Billy Rose’s collection— 5 million documents strong—is the country’s most comprehensive theatrical archives, and features everything from recent TV scripts to 1700s Shakespearean playbills. We still drift off in reverie remembering the blissful afternoon we spent researching Jane Russell, delicately turning the pages of 60-year-old movie mags.
The secret:
The Rose collection is home to some shockingly intimate letters. Some of curator Bob Taylor’s favorites include an exchange between Tennessee Williams and Cheryl Crawford, wherein Williams laments his battle with alcoholism and how deeply it affected his writing (he would send a friend ahead to get him a drink to have on his way to the bar). 40 Lincoln Center Plaza at 64th St (212-870-1639, nypl.org)

Kiosk is hilarious. They were selling a package of dried plums for $15 that you can find 3 blocks south at hong kong supermarket for $2.

Josh, it is true. X is not on the menu.
I am really upset that Time Out printed my secret website for everybody to see. gugunnameable is so secret, you can't even view it on a regular computer -- the secret password is

The concept of this piece, as described, is excellent; the execution is terrible and misleading (per the description, anyway–it would have been a fine article properly described). A tip would be, for example: "order X at Pearl Oyster Bar, it's not on the menu, it's excellent, and you have to request it." Or a reservation password or somesuch.

How is this an "ultra-valuable tip?" It's not even a "tip," it's a piece of trivia.
