Magnet Theater
WHY ESSENTIAL:
When Armando Diaz left the Peoples Improv Theater (which he cofounded after leaving the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre) to open the Magnet, scores of performers loyal to his style followed (including, for full disclosure, TONY Comedy editor Jane Borden, who occasionally performs there). In the coming years, we expect it to give the city’s gold standard, the UCBT, a run for its money.
The secret:
The space used be a dry-cleaning school. Years ago, a steam pipe burst and burned one of the students over 90 percent of her body. She died en route to the hospital. Legend has it that late at night you can see her reflection in the bathroom mirror just for an instant when you turn off the lights. 254 W 29th St between Seventh and Eighth Aves (212-244-8824, magnettheater.com)

Josh, it is true. X is not on the menu.
I am really upset that Time Out printed my secret website for everybody to see. gugunnameable is so secret, you can't even view it on a regular computer -- the secret password is
www.unnameablebooks.net

The concept of this piece, as described, is excellent; the execution is terrible and misleading (per the description, anyway–it would have been a fine article properly described). A tip would be, for example: "order X at Pearl Oyster Bar, it's not on the menu, it's excellent, and you have to request it." Or a reservation password or somesuch.

How is this an "ultra-valuable tip?" It's not even a "tip," it's a piece of trivia.
