    Time Out New York / Issue 639 : Dec 27, 2007–Jan 2, 2008
    100 best food and drink

    Showdown

Face-offs over the most delicious duck and the richest hot cocoa.

    vs.
    Fatty duck at Fatty Crab
Hunks of steamed-then-fried bone-in bird that’s so chewy and irresistible, you gotta use your fingers. 643 Hudson St between Gansevoort and Horatio Sts (212-352-3590). $14.
Peking duck at Peking Duck House
Duck with burnished skin, trimmed of fat, pried tableside—the classic done right. 28 Mott St between Mosco and Pell Sts (212-227-1810). $40.

Winner—Peking Duck: It’s hard to compete with a more-than-500-year-old dish.

    vs.
    Hot chocolate at City Bakery
So thick, you can eat it with a fork. 3 W 18th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves (212-366-1414). $4.50.
      Hot chocolate at Jacques Torres
Six spices. Two chilies. And it pudding-ifies. 66 Water St at Main St (718-875-9772). $3.25.

Winner—a draw. We found City Bakery’s “chalky,” pining for Jacques’s chilies; but then, some of us despised Jacques’s filmy top. Decide for yourself.
