    Time Out New York / Issue 650 : Mar 12–18, 2008
    Spring bars '08

    Wasted time

On a recent Saturday night, we sent our booziest reporters to eight starting points and gave them one mission: Explore a night’s worth of watering holes within staggering distance. No lounge would be too swanky, no joint too divey and no test-tube shot too stupid. Four of our brave crawl captains are hitting the hooch again—and this time, you can go with them. Look below for details on when and where to meet.

Lower East Side: Gritty streets hide a grab bag of fancy drinks, funky boîtes and youthful singles.
Forest Hills: Queens is a trip. In a good way.
Park Slope: Come nighttime, strollers give way to crawlers—bar crawlers, that is.
Hell’s Kitchen: If you like to drink—with or without a crowd—HK’s mix of Irish pubs and cocktail lounges is the route to follow.
Harlem: A mature crowd dominates the joints uptown, which are low on scene and high on style.
Upper West Side: Embrace your inner frat boy—there’s always a party (and a rollicking game of beer pong) on the UWS. Jäger shots, anyone?
Upper East Side: The nabe notorious for its bland postcollege bar scene actually excels at variety—if you know where to look.
Williamsburg: The L train may have made the ’Burg an official drinking destination, but you can find authentic freakery amid the PBRs and ironic decor.

    More boozing:

A toast to celebrity: They say invest in what you know, which explains why it's not hard to find a celebrity-owned boozing establishment in this city.
Quiz: What’s your bar type: Do you like trendy and cool or slummy and cheap? Our quiz will tell you where you should be drinking.
My local: TONY editors make the ultimate sacrifice and dish on their favorite neighborhood watering holes.
Quiz: Cocktails made in New York: A number of notable potables were invented right here. Guess what they are, based on the information provided.

    Also in this issue:

Date our friends reunion!: A few weeks ago we put 49 of our most eligible friends on the dating block. Some got lucky, some got stalkers, and two got more offers than a hooker at the Point.
He said, she said: Actor + indie-rocker does not necessarily = lame vanity project. As She & Him, Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward really do make beautiful music together.
