    Urban outfits

You think you don’t care about trends? These ridiculously stylish New Yorkers sport their own looks—runways be damned.

AndrewAndrew (who are only quoted together) say: “We’ve been dressing identically for almost eight years. We were both born with the name Andrew, and when we met we thought maybe we’d do a project one day—and then this happened. Once we got rid of our old clothing, it was serious. We couldn’t stop. If something has a stain on it, we have to stain the other one as well. It’s compulsory. We were at an art opening in Chelsea, and someone bumped into me. I spilled wine on my shirt, and Andrew had to immediately do the same. We were on the train coming back from Chicago, and we had on white pants and a white shirt, and I spilled red wine on my pants, and immediately Andrew had to do the same. We still wear them; the red stain makes a nice story.”

“The glasses are from Friedrich’s Optik. Every pair of frames is handmade and stamped with an ID number; they’re handcrafted in Germany. They are real—we need them to see. But even if we didn’t, we’d still wear them.”

“These shoes are from a season or two ago at Commes Des Garcons. We can’t stop wearing them, because we get so many compliments. Fashion people know the print from CDG, and rock & roll people think of the Rolling Stones.”

“The pants are J.Crew. We’re East Coast–preppy with a strange twist, like the British eccentrics. We don’t look like we came out of a Dior runway show; we’re not coal miners dressed in space suits. If we were to wear really insane stuff, it would just be too much.”

Interviews by Nina Christensen, Lauren Shopp and Allison Steinberg

It's nice to see people having their own direction when it comes to style, but I cringe to hear people fawning over designer brand names like it's the only thing that matters. I wonder if that baby knows it's shoes cost more than my whole outfit?
