The item A really well-made Italian chair
The process “We wanted the chair to be extracomfy, so for inspiration we looked to Edwardian Chesterfield leather chairs, the kind you see in old gentlemen’s clubs in London. Our tufts needed to be ovoid, to match its space-age quality. We cut blocks of wood with a scroll saw in various round shapes, which we covered with three-inch pieces of foam. Then we wrapped them in white leather and stapled them to the blocks before screwing them into the chair from the back. We covered the screws with Spackle, and painted them and the chrome legs with enamel paint.”

School’s Out, we sanded and stained the stools and then carved them up classroom-style with a pen knife.”
