This latest homage to the Southport Weekender, the long-running U.K. festival dedicated to all-things soulful and dancey, offers few surprises—but with music of this quality, that hardly matters. Disc 1, compiled by Jazzanova, kicks off in a noodly nu-jazz fashion, but soon finds its footing via the Afro-tinged broken beat of Henrik Schwartz and Amampondo’s “I Exist Because of You” and the joyous disco stomp of South Bronx Community Youth Project’s “Dance Freak.” Mr. Scruff’s disc, meanwhile, is a stroll through the festival’s history, anchored by gorgeous cuts from the likes of Northern-soul icon Bobby Reed and ’70s jazz-funk combo Brass Fever.
