Coffee pro Liz Clayton fills us in on last night’s Chelsea bean extravaganza...

With Times Square clean and porn downloadable, it’s near impossible to find a grindhouse-era porn theater in New York City—one featuring a big screen and plush seats, for that communal experience. But where there’s a will (plus a MetroCard and no shame), there’s a way.
Packing Purell, I arrive one Saturday at Cinema Kings Highway— a XXX joint since the 1960s—in Gravesend, Brooklyn. The decrepit marquee is blank, and the lobby is filled with non–porking-movie posters for fare such as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. But the ticket taker knows what’s up. “You know we play dirty movies?” he asks, charging $12 for an all-day pass.
Inside it smells like chlorine and loneliness. Elderly men—all men—lit by dark red lights shuffle between the movies and a break room (featuring vending machines and free coffee!). I take a seat in a theater playing a Ron Jeremy flick, which, judging by the bush size, is from 1979. Viewers are as old-school as the movie; the gramps in front requires a cane to get up. More elders sit in the back, and as soon as I hear rustling—you know, that kind—I take off.
An adjoining screen plays gay porn, and the theater upstairs (totally empty) screens The Constant Gardener (to abide by the 60/40 law, which says 60 percent of an adult venue’s content must be nonpornographic). You’ll also find 32 private-viewing booths, which show the hard-core stuff. I enter one and watch some poor girl get fisted.
That reminds me! I really need to wash my hands.
