Jim Campilongo
WHY ESSENTIAL:
New York City has no shortage of guitar heroes, but few cover as many bases as Jim Campilongo, a Bay Area transplant whose Telecaster skills are now regularly on display at comfortable hangs like the Living Room and 55 Bar. Heaven Is Creepy, Campilongo’s latest CD, reveals a range that extends from seductive country-swing to atmospheric jazz and well beyond. Cameos by Martha Wainwright and Norah Jones indicate the kind of company this guitar-slinger keeps.
The secret:
“My dad always wanted me to be an orthodontist,” says Campilongo. “His logic was simple: ‘There’s money in it, Jimmy.’ My 12-year-old mind couldn’t imagine a more boring occupation. I wanted to be Keith Moon, Jimi Hendrix or even Don Garlits, drag racer supreme. It all worked out.” (jimcampilongo.com)

Josh, it is true. X is not on the menu.
I am really upset that Time Out printed my secret website for everybody to see. gugunnameable is so secret, you can't even view it on a regular computer -- the secret password is
www.unnameablebooks.net

The concept of this piece, as described, is excellent; the execution is terrible and misleading (per the description, anyway–it would have been a fine article properly described). A tip would be, for example: "order X at Pearl Oyster Bar, it's not on the menu, it's excellent, and you have to request it." Or a reservation password or somesuch.

How is this an "ultra-valuable tip?" It's not even a "tip," it's a piece of trivia.
