    Bloggers vs critics

Probing question: How do you make your voice heard?

I want to start a critical blog! How do I make an impact online, given all the choices?

    Jenny Davidson
Write well, write regularly and write over a longish period of time. You will find your audience.

Kenyon Hopkin, editor, music blog Advance Copy
It’s more saturated than ever before. It is possible, however, to find a niche that is underexposed and begs for coverage. Either that or follow around celebrities like Lindsay Lohan.

    Tweed
    Porn. Extra-dirty homemade porn.

Steve Smith, classical music editor, Time Out New York; editor, music blog Night After Night
Posting frequently, and with authority and passion, usually generates its own buzz. After that, you might find your blog being scooped up by a directory, a reblogger, Google and so on.

    Mario Naves
If I had a clue, I’d be doing it.

    Cara Joy David, theater blogger
Immerse yourself in the world you want to critique. You need to have points of reference. Also, prayer wouldn't hurt… and neither would networking.

    Michael Feingold
There’s no such thing as impact online. The planet is too overpopulated and the virtual world too wide for that. Committing an act of real-world violence or saying something stupid beyond belief will always get you a large audience, but these don’t really count as theater criticism. Numbers aren’t everything. Very few Londoners actually went to the Globe Theater in Shakespeare’s time.

Adam Buckman, TV columnist, New York Post
Opinions on the Web are a dime a dozen. Forget about opinion-writing. Break stories instead. That’s how websites get noticed these days. They break stories that are picked up and credited by the established news media. That’s impact.
