Went a month without: Partying
After going a month without partying, do you feel like you are more apt to stay in?
Sadly, I’d say I go out as much, or more, than I did last year. What I can say is this: I’m seriously thinking of folding this into my New Year’s resolutions, but going about it a little more lightly—for example, not drinking or going out for one week per month.
Did you go buck nuts right after that month and go out for ten nights straight?
I’d say it took me three to four days to get back up to speed. Within a week I was pretty much back to where I started, albeit 20 pounds lighter from the lack of booze.
Did you pick up any continuing habits or hobbies during that month?
I probably read a little more and cook a little more; I had a lot of time and energy for those things when I was living as a sober shut-in.
Do you still talk to people about the story?
I tell them about it all the time. I loved those 30 days in a lot of ways (mainly the “lost a ton of weight” bit). And people love to hear about it.
Are there any lasting conclusions that you've taken from the experience?
As I said in the story, drunk people are assholes. It’s just as much fun to attend a rock show sober as it is not. And, after trying a variety of diets and fasts, nothing has been healthier for me than just slowing down and doing nothing for a month.
