1. You can’t do it yourself. According to Christopher Gangoo, program director at Brooklyn Hospital’s Detox Center, kicking drugs isn’t something you should do alone. Call 1-800-LIFENET, the city’s hot line for advice.
2. If you’re on the fence about giving them up, rent the Ryan Gosling flick Half Nelson—he’s a functioning drug addict, but one look at his life will make you look long and hard at your own.
3. If you’re planning to kick your habit in 2008, build your inner reserves with an hour of silent meditation. Narcotics Anonymous offers sessions Sundays at 12:30pm. (O’Toole Building, St. Vincent’s Hospital, 203 W 12th St at Seventh Ave, sixth floor)
4. Stay home. If you know you can’t go to the club without doing a bump in the bathroom, recruit some drug-free friends to come over and watch a movie (say, Training Day) instead.
5. “Get clean in every aspect of your life,” says nutritionist Tanya Zuckerbrot. Once you’ve kicked the drugs, try a whole-food diet to maintain your newfound health.
