Like, omigod! Cheerleading for beginners! The brand-new three-part class at HRC combines cardio and dance training with intense body-conditioning exercises. “We’ll be doing lots of jumps, which you won’t see in other classes,” says course creator (and former cheerleader) Andrew Gray. “It’s a hugely good workout, with a lot of core and upper-body work. We’re not gonna be building pyramids, but we’ll be conditioning the body as if preparing for that.” Each class culminates, of course, with a big ol’ cheer.
Rates: Sign up in January for a per-month rate of $105 and no initiation fee (regularly $125 per month with a $500 initiation fee).

NYSC may be the fitness equivalent of Starbucks (eight more of ’em popped up in NYC last year), but we’ve got to hand it to them for always rolling out new ways to get fit. The kinesis wall at this location has all kinds of pulleys and weights, meant to be functional training for the things we do in daily life. Plus, it looks
Blade Runner futuristic. “Kinesis brings together balance, strength and flexibility in one workout,” says Ed “this is my real name” Trainor, VP of fitness services.
Rates: Per month $69–$95, plus $20.08 starting fee (normally $120) through January 31.
