    Urban outfits

You think you don’t care about trends? These ridiculously stylish New Yorkers sport their own looks—runways be damned.

    By Photographs by Nick Ruechel

    Constanze Lyndsay Han
    Park Slope, Brooklyn/Hollywood

Makeup: Sutan using Mac Cosmetics; Hair: Jake Dingler at Space Ny

Constanze says: “I’m a stylist, and my client Salli Richardson wore these Amrapali of Jaipur earrings to the premiere of I Am Legend. After the premiere, I had to have them, and have worn them ever since. They’re made of diamonds encrusted in enamel and gold. They give my outfits exotic flair.”

“This shirt is Dries Van Noten, which has been my favorite designer for years. They don’t follow trends and they make pieces with beading in colors and prints that fit my style. I bought another shirt just like this by the same designer years ago. This green is more trendy today than it used to be—the designer recycled the style.”

“These white pants survived Playboy’s Super Bowl party in Phoenix. No one got salsa on them!”

“I grew up in Manhattan and Brooklyn, so I have a typical NYC-girl style, but I spend time in Tahiti and Bali, so I’m also inspired by island style. I like pieces that are timeless—not to be confused with classic—in a funky way. I like bright colors, white pants, unique cuts, and soft fabrics like chiffon and satin with embellishments like beading and leather detail, which contrast the comfortable fabric.”

Interviews by Nina Christensen, Lauren Shopp and Allison Steinberg

It's nice to see people having their own direction when it comes to style, but I cringe to hear people fawning over designer brand names like it's the only thing that matters. I wonder if that baby knows it's shoes cost more than my whole outfit?
