    TONY fashion

Hey, we have some pretty cool togs ourselves. Some of the office's snazziest dressers reveal their style secrets.

    Describe your personal style.
Nerdy chic, I guess. I’ve been into wearing ties and cardigan sweaters. And of course, my big black glasses.

Of course. How long have you had those?
I’ve had glasses like this for a couple years now. This specific pair I got in January. It’s probably the most expensive thing I’ve ever put on my body.

    Wow. Are they titanium-plated?
Not exactly, but they’re a lightweight metal. So they have the strength of metal without being too irritating on your face.

That’s a good thing. Do you have any fashion icons?
Do you know Simon Doonan? He’s the window dresser guy for Barneys, and he’s very dapper. He’s like a dapper god to me.

So do you shop at Barneys a lot?
No. I take what he does and downscale it to Loehmann’s and…lesser stores.

Your style sounds quite refined, but I notice you’re wearing casual Converse shoes. Is that always the case?
I’m a little dressed-down today. It’s Friday. But I don’t like to come off as uptight, so I’ll wear funky shoes, and I like colorful socks.

    Socks are an underappreciated accessory.
They are, but I’m trying to bring them into the limelight. Like, if I see someone out with a good pair of socks, I make sure to compliment them. It’s a lot less nasty than talking about underwear and showing each other your drawers.

I would agree. Is there a pair of socks that you remember admiring on someone recently?
I saw some Kermit the Frog socks that I thought were cool.

Which of yours get noticed the most?
Usually it’s the stripey, colorful ones. I don’t really do the skull-and-crossbones or the Santa Claus heads.

How do you decide what socks to wear with what outfit?
Well, I tend to ridiculously overmatch everything in my outfit. I’ll make sure the yellow stripe in my sock matches my belt and a line in my shirt and so on.

That’s so intricate. Does it take you four hours to pick out an outfit in the morning?
No. I developed a technique a couple of years ago where I buy only four colors. Then anything you wear in those colors will match.

Is your closet broken into four quadrants, so you won’t mix them up?
Once a year I’ll try to do that, but it never lasts.
