    Eat Out Awards 2008

    Celebs' choice

Local luminaries dish on where they love to eat.

    Charles Simic
“I love to eat Italian food: good grilled calamari, risottos and sausages. I Trulli is one of my favorites; they have a great wine list.”

    The Gypsy women
    Alison Fraser (Tessie)
“My favorite place to eat is at the West Bank Cafe. Steve, the owner, is a fantastic sommelier. They have a tasting menu that is unbelievable, and that pairs with wines. There is fun entertainment in the basement. It’s just a great place to hang out. Oh, and Chef Joe is superb!”

    Lenora Nemetz (Mazeppa)
“Cafe Un Deux Trois is my place to go. I’ve only been back here for a few months, but in the ’70s, I used to go with Peter Allen. I love the steak tartare and champagne.”

    Marilyn Caskey (Electra)
“Green Symphony is my local eatery—food for performers! It’s Broadway’s cafeteria. The owner Jay is amazing; his mission is to make the world a healthy place by giving people nutritious food. I love the organic salad bar, and I get the monster green protein shake to go with it.”

    Maria Lebedeva
“My favorite food is sushi. New York is a great place for it. I love California rolls.”

    Morgan Spurlock
“My favorite food has to be anything cooked by my mom. And my favorite restaurants in NYC are: Tailor, because any place with beet sangria knows what’s up; La Esquina, because it’s so close to my office when I need a fish-taco fix; and Lombardi’s Pizza—the best pie in NYC.”

    They Might Be Giants
    John Flansburgh
“I love all restaurants, but my current fave is ’inoteca on Rivington. The food and service are always perfect, and they have a small downstairs wine cellar dining room that holds about 12, I think. It’s perfect when I’m with a larger group after a show, and we feel the need to explore the world of Italian wine. It’s about as private a meal you can have in a restaurant that doesn’t require a password.”

    John Linnell
“Katz’s! I get a pastrami on rye with mustard and a Dr. Brown’s root beer.”
