“I once posed nude for an art project in college. For my fantasy shoot, I’d play an injured athlete. I’m a soccer player, so the scene is a free-kick situation in which I’m on a soccer field, lining up for a long free kick from outside the box. The ball is on the ground in front of me, and the camera is positioned on the side of me at an angle that can capture me, the ball and the goal in the distance. I’m dressed in cleats, shin guards, socks and sweatbands. I will be severely bruised and cut up, with a big dressing on one thigh, a bruise on the face, a welt on the back, a taped-up broken finger, a bloody cut on the knee, a grass stain across the chest and maybe cleat marks somewhere. I’d be ready to take the kick, eyeing my target in the distance with a look of anguish and concentration on my face.”
