CLAIM: “WORLD FAMOUS KARAOKE”
Every Monday night, Arlene’s World Famous Live Rock & Roll Karaoke Band backs karaoke champs at Arlene’s Grocery (95 Stanton St between Ludlow and Orchard Sts; 212-995-1652, rockandrollkaraokeband.com). We appreciate old-fashioned rock & roll hyperbole as much as the next guy, yet we wondered: Does the band really rock the world? We decided to make some calls.
“Hello, Israel?” Over in the Middle East, waitress Sharon Weiss professed her ignorance of the band and its supposed global domination, but did offer advice on where we should look for more experts: “I think in Southeast Asia they do a lot of karaoke.”
Next call, Singapore, where magazine editor Maddy Ensor boasted of singing karaoke in the island nation’s finest nightclubs, as well as in Hong Kong and London. But unfortunately for Arlene’s, she similarly disavowed knowledge of the weekly singfest. “It sounds like a good idea, but I don’t know if they’re actually world famous,” Ensor said. London, too, seemed to have a blind spot for our band. “I have never heard of it,” admitted student Firouz Ardalan.

Worst article ever. You're not comparing apples to apples here (cue to cue). Once that Bonnie's pork has red sauce on it, it's become a BBQ sandwich, a staple in many school lunchroom cafeterias - something completely different. I had the Bar BQ pulled pork yesterday - best ever - anywhere - nyc or Carolina. Moist and awesome flavor - don't need sauce - but the spicy vinegar kicked ass. If you want sublime smokey pork, Bar BQ is the place, if you want a torta or something else, then haves those.
