    Get dancing

    Schwing your partner

We test six dance classes for their singles potential.  If you're lucky, the rhythm—and a hottie—is gonna get you.

By Billie Cohen, Photographs by Mimi Cabell

    THE HUSTLE
    You Should Be Dancing

    THE CROWD
Yes, that Hustle. The crowd here was tiny—just eight people, including the teacher. Incredibly friendly, though. After all, you can’t exactly be pretentious when you’re reliving the ’70s.

    HOW AVAILABLE
Only two of the eight-—both men—were single, and thankfully not dressed like Disco Stu. One couple came to learn together. Aww.

    HOW HANDSY
The Hustle involves a lot of hand-holding and dancing in circles, but no close swaying. There is a small opportunity for light grazing and hip-bumping, but nothing to get a Saturday night fever about.

    HOOK-UP POTENTIAL
Slim. See “The crowd” above. Nevertheless, You Should Be Dancing hosts Hustle parties at its club next door, so there’s hope for your own Swingtown there.

    WHERE TO DO IT
The energetic crowd spinning through the auditorium-size ballroom at Stepping Out Studios’ Hustle Jam comes to work (though it may look like play). Despite the folding chairs that are set up along the outside of the space, most of the patrons here are boogying nonstop, save for occasional rehydrating gulps of bottled water. Participants range from young, ambitious, usually-hip-hop dancers to midcareer corporate lawyers, but everyone rallies around a deep appreciation for disco. 37 W 26th St between Broadway and Sixth Ave, ninth floor (646-742-9400, steppingoutstudios.com). Wed 9:30pm–12:45am, $9.
