THE CROWD
Mostly men. Mostly Indian. Good-looking. Friendly. Everyone, even those who looked like pros, joined the preparty lesson in this Punjabi dance, and many even jumped onstage to show how it’s done.
HOW AVAILABLE
Very. Two women we met arrived alone, but by the time the 25-minute lesson was over they had paired off. “I’m just here with my friends,” said Michelle, 32. “If the men come, they come.” They did.
HOW HANDSY
Your hands are up in the air most of the time, but there is occasion for lightly touching your partner. We even saw one couple grind, South Asian–style.
HOOK-UP POTENTIAL
Bhangra is very joyous and free, which translates into an approachable crowd. Bounce next to anyone and within a few minutes you’ll have a new friend. A couple minutes longer and you could have more.
