THE CROWD
Hot and muscled, but born in the late ’80s and early ’90s, the B-boys and -girls were diverse and intimidatingly talented. Still, despite a certain reporter’s inability to toprock, they were friendly and supportive.
HOW AVAILABLE
Probably more than they admitted (only a few of the women fessed up to single status), but as one midtwenties investment consultant said of the options, “They’re either too young or gay.”
HOW HANDSY
You’ll be hot and heavy with the floor, but that’s about the only thing you’ll get to hump.
HOOK-UP POTENTIAL
Despite the raging hormones of youth, the dancers are focused—they’re either professionals working their skillz or students more concerned with learning a chair freeze than getting your number.

WHERE TO DO IT
Three days a week, McCarren Park Practice organizer Breakeasy brings a boom box and a piece of linoleum to the end of the park’s running track, where 25 B-boys and -girls ages 8 to 30 get down. Some come to practice for battles, but for those who don’t know the moves there’s a tutorial at 8pm. McCarren Park, Union Ave at Bayard St, Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Mon–Wed 7–9:30pm.
Ten-person B-boy teams and two-person poppin’ pairs serve it up during a two-day battle put on by breakin’ group Kings of New York. St. Marks Church, 131 E 10th St between Second and Third Aves (718-306 7493). July 19, 20 1–8pm. $25 to battle, $10 to watch.
