BARS
19 Domaine Bar à Vins
Weary subway commuters need only stumble out of the 7 train station to find this restorative vino refuge. The intimate room’s vintage lights and leather-topped stools welcome hand-holding couples and affluent professionals from the nearby waterfront condos. They sip from a lively selection of more than 40 old and new world wines by the glass (stored in antique wooden cabinets). After nibbling free plates of olives and splurging on iced oysters and clams, customers have it out on the old-fashioned French foosball table. 50-04 Vernon Blvd at 50th Ave (718-784-2350). Tue–Sun 5pm–1am.
20 La Vuelta
After a day at P.S.1, La Vuelta makes an excellent stop for the artfully inclined. It’s a bustling Latin restaurant, bar, gallery, warm-weather outdoor café and music stage all in one. 10-43 44th Dr between 10th and 11th Sts (718-361-1858). Mon 11am–10pm; Tue–Fri 11am–11pm; Sat, Sun 5–10pm.
21 LIC Bar
The new owners inherited the previous bar’s brick, wood and tin-ceiling fixtures, then brought in a laid-back attitude all their own—plus a much more extensive drink selection. They also added an outdoor patio where you can smoke, tie up the dog and even order delivery from nearby restaurants. 45-58 Vernon Blvd between 45th and 46th Rds (718-786-5400). Mon–Wed 4pm–2am; Thu, Fri 4pm–4am; Sat 1pm–4am; Sun 1pm–2am.
22 McReilly’s Pub
Surly Irish waitresses and poor lighting somehow add to the charm of this no-frills gin joint. Sunday brunch is a seriously good deal. 46-42 Vernon Blvd at 46th Rd (718-786-7727). Daily 10am–11pm.
23 PJ Leahy’s
Just up the block from the 108th Precinct, this bar is filled with New York’s Finest and commuters seeking an immediate blast of booze after getting off the 7 train. 50-02 Vernon Blvd at 50th Ave (718-472-5131). Daily 11am–4am.
24 Shannon Pot
While LIC may be undergoing a rapid Williamsburgization, this modest Irish pub decorated with gnomes, sports-favoring TVs and abundant neon is an unaffected holdout. Museumgoers rub elbows with graffiti artists (the taggers’ haven 5 Pointz is next door), workaday joes and suits, who order properly poured Guinness pints and sweet Shannon Pot Shamrock Ales. Revelers can also fill up on pub grub including burgers and fish and chips. 45-06 Davis St at Jackson Ave (718-786-6992). Open daily at 11am; closing time varies.
