Gallic pop-schlock auteur Luc Besson brings to life his 2005 children’s book, a lazy fairy-tale pastiche reveling in mite-size cherubs, which cribs from gnomic mythology, elvish lore, Harry Potter, Arthurian legend and can’t-pay-the-rent melodrama. Throw in ruby treasures, an African tribe, and animated voice work by Madonna, Robert De Niro, Snoop Dogg and David Bowie, and the result is a buoyantly messy fantasy film in which cutesy cacophony is the coin of the realm.
