The item Wooden box
The process “We cut a piece of 1/2" plywood to fit the bottom of the box, and then nailed it on. We wanted the box to open so we measured 3" down and then cut through it horizontally with a circular saw to create a lid, which we reattached by adding hinges to the back. For the round parts, we cut a 6"-diameter fence post into eight 4" sections. After sanding them down, we screwed them onto the box top from underneath the lid to make it look like a Lego brick.”
The materials 24" x 36" piece of plywood ($9), 9' cedar fence post ($18), wood glue ($9) and 3" brass hinges ($5); all at Lowe’s (118 Second Ave at 10th St, Gowanus, Brooklyn; 718-249-1151)—Collected and salvaged by Wary Meyers (warymeyers.com).
