    What are you up to?
I’m selling my necklaces and rings. They’re dichroic glass.

    Isn’t that a NASA thing?
Yeah, NASA invented it for some kind of space whatever. It’s been adopted by craftspeople for use in kilns. I like the shimmery quality—it’s hypnotic.

Did you plant your table outside a bar on purpose?
No, but it was a good idea—drunk people are impulsive!

Do you do this every day?
No. I sell the stuff on eBay and Etsy. I’m also a tattoo artist.

Speaking of impulsive buyers—do you ever wish tattoos had a required waiting period for people who want stupid designs?
[Laughs] Yes! People take more time figuring out what car they’re gonna buy than they do picking out a tattoo they’re gonna have for the rest of their lives.

I bet you’ve gotten some heinous requests.
I have, yeah. The dumbest one I ever did was a heart that looked like a pair of tits with a banner across it that said tits. The guy got it on his arm. I also try to talk people out of getting names—even if a couple has been married for 20 years. It’s almost like a jinx; they’ll be broken up a week later.

How long have you been at this?
Twelve years. But even when I was five, I was really anal about coloring inside the lines. It’s like I was born to be a tattoo artist.

    How old are you?
    I’m ageless.

    Too old to say?
No, I’ve never said. I’m a woman, and a woman never tells.

    More thoughts from Sue

“I’m reading UFOs and the National Security State, by Richard Dolan. It’s a huge universe; odds are that extraterrestrials are out there. I try not to read it at night—it freaks me out.”

“I go to Germany every year or so for a big gothic festival called Wave-Gotik-Treffen; something like 150 bands play. German goth bands blow American bands away.”

“There are only one or two other people in New York who I’ve seen with cheek piercings. For some reason I have to be symmetrical: I tried having one eyebrow ring on one side but couldn’t do it. If I had my piercings out of balance, my life would feel out of balance.”
