    Fashion Trends

    Photograph: David Malosh

Dear Old Schooler: What is the worst fashion trend you’ve lived through, and what’s your favorite?—Emma, 21, Greenwich Village

Patricia Joyner, 63, Harlem My grandmother raised me, and she bought me these brown dungarees when I was 13. I hated them dungarees, but I had to wear ’em! Ever since then, I don’t care for jeans. I love suits, though; I’m a church person, so I’m always wearing suits. Being raised in the church, there were a lot of things I didn’t wear, and my grandmother kept me in line. As I got older, I made up for it with low-cut dresses and things like that. There’s an old movie about pimps and prostitutes, and they wore maxi coats.I always liked those coats. They’re very long, but then those girls were tall women. Those are coming back soon.
