What in the heck would Howard Stern think? Back in June, the famed titty bar Scores—the shock jock’s favorite stomping ground—turned gay when party promoter Daniel Nardicio and his stable of well-hung go-go dancers took the place over for a night of revelry. Good-bye pasties, hello jockstraps.
“I pretty much replicated what the format is like normally,” says Nardicio. “The dancers performed numbers onstage, did pole dancing and gave lap dances upstairs. All my guys made tons of money, and the customers were loving it.” The party at Scores (536 W 28th St, 212-868-4900) was such a success that he’s planning on throwing another event there within the next couple of months. And Nardicio is not alone in his quest to bring on a new wave of queer lap dancing .
Over the past year or so, several NYC bars and clubs have also begun offering man-on-man-on-couch action. The recently reopened East Village hangout Boysroom (9 Ave A, 212-995-8684) starts out its week with Macho Mondays when, before and after an energetic strip contest, a gaggle of street-smart hombres are available for intimate encounters in a cordoned-off area. And it’s not just geezers who are copping a feel.
“It’s fun to tip a hot young dancer, even if you’re young and hot yourself,” says Boysroom co-owner Michael Formika Jones, who regards lap dancing as a healthy sexual stimulant. “It works as a bit of foreplay and gets you in the mood for getting laid later.” Both he and Nardicio like to employ a wide range of dancers, from slender twinks to solid hunks, while over at the Chelsea stronghold Splash (50 W 17th St, 212-691-0073)—which features lap dancing in the basement on Wednesdays and Saturdays—it’s pure beefcake.
Another place where pecs and biceps rule is the ten-month-old party 20 Club, held on Sundays at the gentlemen’s club VIP (20 W 20th St, 212-633-1199). “We look at bodies first,” says manager Rob Tyler, regarding the club’s hiring policies. “But the dancers also have to be respectful and courteous.” Sure enough, the international array of scantily clad cuties is quite friendly, with lap dances going for $20 a pop (which isn’t that much when you consider that a mere vodka and OJ costs $14). If you’re feeling like truly splurging, $100 champagne rooms are available for one-on-one encounters. And what goes on in there, pray tell?
“You gotta come in to find out,” teases one of the dancers. But no worries: For horny men on a budget, there’s also a continuous show on the club’s spacious stage. Under a cluster of glittering disco balls, the guys take turns shedding most of their clothes and showing off their lap-pleasing physiques.
“We’ve got the hottest boys in the entire universe,” announced the DJ on a recent night—and no one in the crowd seemed to disagree.
