Though this Kentucky quintet has built its reputation on the back of an epic live show, its studio work keeps getting more impressive. Evil Urges, My Morning Jacket’s fifth full-length, finds frontman Jim James and his homies drinking deeply from a heady brew of country-rock guitars, soul-funk grooves and psychedelic keyboard textures. On “Highly Suspicious,” James even tries his hand at an Afrika Bambaataa–style electrorap track with appealingly bizarre results.
