The three members of this worldly Chicago trio first played together in Defender, a little-heard post-rock act whose claim to semifame is having backed Can’s Damo Suzuki. On their debut as Allá, singer Lupe Martinez, drummer Angel Ledezma and multi-instrumentalist Jorge Ledezma make a much more memorable sound, swirling together bits of Brazilian jazz, American pop and European krautrock with the ease (and enthusiasm) of lifelong crate-diggers. Es Tiempo features tasty guest spots from various members of the wide-ranging Chicago scene (including Matt Lux of Isotope 217 and Tim Kinsella of Joan of Arc), but the CD’s summery blend is Allá’s own.
Allá plays Joe’s Pub Tue 8 and Mercury Lounge Wed 9.
