    THU 15 ACID QUEST
    In 1985, a rare bottle of bordeaux that once belonged to Thomas Jefferson was sold for $156,000. But was it a hoax? Explore the oenological mystery at this wine tasting and signing, where author Benjamin Wallace will discuss his book, The Billionaire’s Vinegar. Young bordeaux wine and cheese will be served. FREE The Billionaire’s Vinegar reading. Bottlerocket Wine & Spirit. 6pm.

    THU 15 A FINE RHINE
    Discover the many characteristics of European riesling, one of the Continent’s great varietals—from sweet to dry, floral to mineral—at this tasting event. Two hundred fifty examples will be on offer from 60 German, Alsatian and Austrian producers, including Josef Leitz and Schloss Schönborn. Asian-themed small bites will also be available. Reservations are recommended. Riesling & Co. Tasting 2008.     FRI 16–SUN 18 THE PLATE DIVIDE
    Forget what you’ve been told: It’s okay to play with your food. An eight-course tasting menu will feature artist-designed interactive plateware at restaurant and performance venue Monkey Town. Dishes will include an edible lamp (the shade made from bread, the candle a mixture of butter and salt) and a bowl with a hidden compartment that will release orange vapor, enveloping the snapper dish within. Video installations will show food-related films while you eat. Reservations are required. Dine on Design. Monkey Town. Fri 16, Sat 17 at 7:30, 10pm; Sun 18 at 8pm. Advance $50, day of event $60.

    TUE 20 SWAP MEAT
    Queens throws down a playful gauntlet at the borough’s annual tasting event, inviting citywide pros to engage in a friendly burger competition. Judges will include chef Terrance Brennan of Picholine, and The Hamburger: A History scribe Josh Ozersky. Tastes of all the burgers, plus goodies from more than 50 local restaurants, will be served.
