    Standard of giving

Donate time or money to these NYC organizations that put food on the table.

City Harvest Over the course of a year, this group “rescues” 20 million pounds of perfectly edible food from restaurants and delivers it to the needy. cityharvest.org, 917-351-8700

Citymeals-on-Wheels James Beard helped found this group nearly three decades ago; it continues to bring hot meals to housebound, elderly New Yorkers (more than 3 million in the past year). citymeals.org, 212-687-1234

The Food Bank for New York City/FoodChange, Inc. Since 1983, the Food Bank for NYC (which merged with fellow nonprofit FoodChange last summer) has been nourishing Gotham’s hungry with more than 250,000 meals daily, food-safety workshops and nutrition counseling. foodbanknyc.org, 212-566-7855

God’s Love We Deliver This organization has delivered more than 8 million meals—to those suffering from AIDS, cancer and other life-changing illnesses—since it was founded in 1986. godslovewedeliver.org, 212-294-8100

Just Food This nonprofit champions sustainable, locally grown food, supporting community gardens through its program City Farms, and helping Empire State growers stay afloat by encouraging New Yorkers to join CSAs (community supported agriculture). www.justfood.org, 212-645-9880

Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty Though it has a special awareness of the Jewish poor in NYC, this organization reaches out to anyone who is hungry: Last year it sent 4.5 million pounds of kosher food to people of many religious persuasions citywide. metcouncil.org, 212-453-9500

New York City Coalition Against Hunger This umbrella group represents more than 1,200 food pantries and soup kitchens, and has a focus on helping the needy become self-sufficient. nyccah.org, 212-825-0028&
