Q: I’m looking for a galleryesque place to throw a party for an art-school grad. Help!—Jennifer Deason, Greenwich Village
A: Art-gallery boozing is too often relegated to plastic cups and tepid merlot, but at Passerby (436 W 15th St between Ninth and Tenth Aves, 212-206-7321), opened by Toby Cecchini and Gavin Brown in Brown’s Chelsea gallery, sophisticates and Philistines alike can enjoy expertly mixed cocktails and the bar’s signature Saturday Night Fever–style light-up floor. Further downtown, GalleryBar (120 Orchard St between Delancey and Rivington Sts, 212-529-2266) is an art space that moonlights as a sleek bi-level lounge. Until the end of the month, take in “Tunney Munney,” a found-object exhibition by artist Peter Tunney, while downing festive cocktails like the Honey Pot, a blend of Starr African Rum, fresh lime juice and honey water, topped with bubbly.
