Q I spend a fortune at wine bars. Where can I buy a bottle for less than $20?—Eugene Vail, Chelsea
A Setting a two-sawbuck limit when you’re an oenophile typically narrows the options to Carlo Rossi carafes, but there are a handful of half-off deals early in the week for your swishing pleasure. Take a Monday field trip to Brooklyn’s intimate wine bar Donna da Vine (378 Atlantic Ave between Bond and Hoyt Sts, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn; 718-643-2250) for a choice of six half-price bottles. The barkeeps recommend New Mexico’s fragrant sparkler Domaine St. Vincent ($17) or the peachy Big Tattoo white ($17.50). If boozing on Tuesday is more your speed, visit downtown gastropub Nolita House (47 E Houston St between Mott and Mulberry Sts, 212-625-1712), where all bottles are half off from 5 to 11pm. Savor Australia’s Yalumba Y Series shiraz or France’s fruity Chateau Miraval rosé, each $18—just a smidge more than retail, and cheap enough to justify ordering the $9 cod tacos. Thirsting for more? All night Monday and Tuesday, bottles under $60 (except for sparkling varieties) are 50 percent off at the bordello-esque Bourgeois Pig (111 E 7th St between First Ave and Ave A, 212-475-2246). The best bang for your buck: Jacques-Yves sauvignon blanc or Domaine Laurent Miquel syrah, discounted to $13 and $14 respectively. Want another? Go on. Being a wino has never been so affordable.
