    Pile into a boisterous eatery, crash a trendy spot or snicker in the corner at a ridiculously gourmet lunch.

    Park Avenue Summer

    5 Ninth (lunch)
    The bar at this rustic Meatpacking District restaurant, located in an 1848 brownstone, is flush with speakeasy charm. A fireplace and one of the city’s prettiest gardens add to the intimate atmosphere—a beacon within the area’s garish nightlife scene.

    Blue Smoke (lunch and dinner)
    St. Louis native Danny Meyer’s barbecue joint tops the short list of Manhattan’s best ’cue contenders. The atmosphere is sports-heavy and includes a prominent bourbon bar and galvanized-metal buckets for your bones.

    Centro Vionteca (lunch)
    This is a stellar upscale trattoria in the Village. It’s a casual-chic spot, with sparkling lights, a voluminous menu and whitewashed brick walls.

    Tabla (lunch)
    Enter the packed Bread Bar before ascending a giant wooden staircase to a dome-shaped dining room where men and women in designer duds dine on Indian food with a Western influence.

    Bocca (lunch and dinner)
    Subtlety is not a hallmark of this striking addition to the Union Square dining scene, and the eclectic Roman menu is nothing if not brash, but let Bocca hit you over the head: It’s worth it.
