A.Cheap Shots(140 First Ave between St. Marks Pl and E 9th St, 212-254-6631) is favored by the No. 1 New York–ranked air-hockey player—Michael L. Rosen—so put four quarters on the regulation-size table, grab a beer and prepare yourself for serious competition. The bar also hosts tournaments on the first Monday of each month; the winner gets $50 worth of free drinks. Uptown, the table at The Blue Donkey Bar(489 Amsterdam Ave between 83rd and 84th Sts, 212-496-0777) also costs a dollar in quarters and is usually available in the evenings; apparently, there’s a rush on the table only from 3 to 3:45pm weekdays—right after school lets out.
